Background: American astronauts wound up their ten-day training session with Soviet cosmonauts on Friday (25 April). They had been working at the Cosmonaut Training Centre at Star City near Moscow in preparation for July's Soyuz-Apollo orbital meeting.
They also held a news conference of Friday when they dismissed suggestions that an aborted Soviet space launch on 5 April -- when the third stage of a two-man Soyuz rocket veered off course -- had cast doubts on the summer mission.
The Americans were then due to leave for Central Asia, where they will visit the top-secret Soviet Cosmonaut launch site at Baikonur.
They will be the first Americans allowed to see the site. They will take a close look at the Soviet two-man Soyuz ship that will meet them for two days of orbital experiments.
