One of Europe's leading trade fairs - the twice-yearly Vienna Fair - was opened by Austria's President Schaerf Sept 4. It lasts one week, and there for the opening was Russian Ambassador Avilov, among other members of the diplomatic corps.
19 countries are exhibiting, and the Fair is the largest yet held, covering an area of over 80 acres. Each country has its own national exhibition. At the Soviet stand there are rocket and moon exhibits.
All kinds of goods are on display, ranging from heavy machinery to a wide range of consumer articles. The machinery is being shown in the city's Prater park, the consumer goods in the Trade Fair in the centre of the city.
On the first day, 150,000 visitors came to the Fair, and brought with them a fleet of private cars estimated to number 325,000. it required 500 Viennese police to keep the traffic in order.
