    Parts of the Istanbul harem of the Ottoman Emperors will be accessible to the public from this week. VISNEWS was allowed a preview of the rooms where for three-hundred years the successive Emperors of the Ottoman Empire were born, crowned, died... and loved. The harem has 380 rooms.
    Topkapi Palace, built over three centuries beginning in the fifteenth, fell out of favour with the Emperors around the turn of the nineteenth century, when they moved into more modern palaces. Over the last fifteen years ten million turkish liras (About 750,000 U.S. dollars) have been spent on restoring the palace.
    SYNOPSIS: Inside the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul is the harem of the Ottoman Emperors. For three hundred years the Emperors of the Ottoman Empire were born, crowned and died here.
    And here is where the Emperors' concubines lived. Altogether there are 380 rooms in the harem.
    Building of the Topkapi Palace was begun in the fifteenth century by Mehmet the Conqueror. Emperor Murat the Third completed the Palace in the sixteenth century, but buildings were added for the next two-hundred years. This is where the Emperors met their concubines.
    Iron bars in the bathroom for protection against assassination. In the dining room of the harem quarters, the Emperors were served while kneeling.
    Over the last fifteen years almost three quarters of a million dollars have been spent on restoring the Palace. This week, part of the Palace goes open to the public.
