    ABOUT 30 BRITISH PASSENGERS EVACUATED FROM FOUR BRITISH SHIPS STRANDED IN THE GREAT BITTER LAKE - MIDWAY ALONG THE CANAL - ARRIVED IN CAIRO LAST NIGHT (SUNDAY). ABOUT 150 CREWMEN FROM THE SAME SHIPS ARE DUE IN CAIRO SOON, LEAVING ONLY SKELETON CREWS ON BOARD.

    SOME REPORTS HAVE SAID THAT SIX WRECKS BLOCK BOTH ENDS OF THE CANAL AND IT WOULD TAKE ABOUT THREE WEEKS TO SALVAGE THEM.
