    THE SIX MEMBER STATES REPRESENTED AT THE COMMISSION'S MEETING WERE NIGERIA, NIGER, UPPER VOLTA, CAMEROUN, DAHOMEY, MALI AND IVORY COAST.

    MEMBER STATES ABSENT FROM THE OPENING SESSIONS WERE GUINEA AND CHAD.

    THE COMMISSION DISCUSSED WAYS OF ENSURING THE NIGER WAS KEPT OPEN FOR FREE NAVIGATION AND THE PROBLEM OF HARNESSING THE RIVER FOR POWER PURPOSES WITHOUT INTERRUPTING ITS USE AS AN IRRIGATION SOURCE.
