    A passing out parade of 326 new recruits was witnessed on Wednesday (13 September) by Kenya's President Jomo Kenyatta at the Armed Forces Training College in Nakuru, 100 miles (161 km) from Nairobi.

    President Kenyatta took the salute in his official capacity as Commander-in-Chief of Kenyan armed forces. He also presented prizes to the best overall recruits.

    The Armed Forces Training College first came into being in July, 1968. It stemmed from a college originally established in 1964 and named the Military Training School of East Africa. As well as training recruits for home forces, the A.F.T.C. also accepts cadets from neighbouring countries, including Uganda and Tanzania.
