Background: Director John Huston's latest film, a crime thriller called 'The Mackintosh Man', was being filmed on location in Malta this week. The film, starring Paul Newman and new French actress Dominique Sanda, is being made by Paul Newman's Newman-Foreman Company for Waner Brothers Production. Producer John Foreman -- Newman's business partner -- was also working on the film.
Filming began in England in October this year, and was being shot on location in Britain and Malta. British actor James Mason was among the cast.
In Malta, over a hundred local extras were hired to take part in the scenes shown being prepared in this newsfilm -- and officers and ratings of the British naval vessel, H.M.S. Bulwark, berthed in Malte, were also used.
SYNOPSIS: British Navy personnel, from H.M.S. Bulwark berthed in Malta last weekend, were called on to perform an unusual task -- to appear in the crime-thriller film 'the Mackintosh Man'. The production director by veteran film-maker John Huston, stars American actor Paul Newman and British star James Mason -- here on set.
Director John Huston, talking to new French actress Dominique Sanda -- playing the female lead. The film, made by Paul Newmen's organisation, the Newmen Foremen Company', for Warner Brothers, is being shot on location in Britain and Malta. Director John Foreman, the other half of Newman's company, was also hard at work.
Newman, veteran of several major film successes over recent years, is playing the part of a jailed jewel thief involved in a prison-break. Better known to the public as an actor, he is also a film director with successes like 'Rachel, Rachel', and 'Sometimes a Great Nation.
The Maltese Government, which is reportedly promoting the island as a film setting, is co-operating with the making of 'The Mackintosh Man'.
