SYNOPSIS: A new outbreak of student unrest at Madrid University on Friday. The trouble centres on the university's Medical School, and police were out in force to prevent demonstrators reaching the university buildings and staging a sit-in. Twenty-four hours earlier, the authorities had closed the medical faculty and struck four-thousand undergraduates off the roll because of a previous student strike.

Eye-witnesses said that come demonstrators later overturned vehicles and hurled stones at the police. A group of about seventy tried to stage a sit-in. But no injuries were reported during the incidents. The University Rector's office has said that students who had not taken part in the earlier protest would be allowed to return to their studies--provided they disclaimed any involvement in the strike. The protest was originally caused when the authorities extended the length of university courses.
