But in Birdcage Walk there was a great deal of noise and activity this morning as the Ministry of Works started removing thirty-two of the plane trees bordering the road.
Alternative trees on the park side inner row are being removed, to give the rest more room for development.
It's a sad sight, but the advisory committee on forestry have recommended the thinning.
