  • Description

The United states Assistant Secretary of State, Mr Marshall Green, is on a tour of South-East Asia, the Far East, Australia and New Zealand to explain the results of president Nixon's visit to the People's Republic of China.

Yesterday (Friday) he was in taipei where he met the Taiwan Foreign Minister. Mr. S.K.Chow, who had bitterly condemned President Nixon's pledge to ultimately withdraw all American forces from Taiwan.

But Mr Green stressed that the United States would continue to honour its defence and other commitments to Taiwan.

    Later he met Vice-President C.K.Yon.

Mr Creen told a news conference before leaving for Manila that Mr Nixon's trip to China was to seek a reduction of tension in the area and pave the way for an era of peace to the benefit of all people in Asia.
