Background: In their efforts to provide a faster delivery service to Johannesburg's retain chemists, South African Druggists Ltd have inaugurated a fleet of 'mobile warehouses' connected to a control centre by radio-telephone.

Stocked with all the drugs likely to be asked for, the van is attended by an 'escort' of motor-scooters. Patrolling a specified sector of the city, the qualified pharmacist in the 'mobile warehouse' receives a call for supplies. The necessary drugs are handed to the delivery man who roars off on his motor-scooter, and in a matter of minutes the chemist is restocked.

Beginning as a development in a "war" between two rival drug supply companies, the 'Red-Van' express delivery service is providing a boon to chemists and patients alike.
