Background: About 2000 workers of Communist Party India (Marxist - Leninists) today marched through the streets of New Delhi to lodge their protest against Soviet Union intervention in Afghanistan. They also protested against t the presence of Soviet troops in Afghanistan. The demonstrators including women, children and men marched for nearly two hours in hot sun to reach Soviet Embassy to lodge their protest. They carried banners and Red Flags with Hammer & Sickle. On reaching Soviet Embassy, the demonstrators were stopped quite a distance from Soviet Embassy by the armed Police. The demonstrators squatted before the Embassy and shouted anti Soviet slogans. The police had made elaborate arrangements to avoid any untoward incident. The demonstration was peaceful
