Background: Venezuela and Ecuador formulised a new political, economic and cultural agreement in Quito last Thursday (August 12).
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Arfotidav Calvani - who agreed the treaty with his Ecuador counterpart Saner Rafael Garcia Velasco - later gave a press conference. In it he declined comment on the treaty's provision for re-examination of relations with Cuba in the light of present international developments.
The new agreement also stressed the anxiety of both countries about protectionist trade policies in industrialised states and its continuing bad repercussions on Latin America.
