ACHEAMPONG: The African Youth Command, as the name implies, has aims and purposes which transcend narrow national objectives. Indeed, it is an organisation which has set for itself the task of bringing the youths of the various African nationalities together so that they may, in concert, work for the upliftment of the whole of our continent in political economic social and cultural terms. Any organisation and any action committed to bringing our peoples together, to help them think and act not as strangers but as brothers and ???istera with common and shared obli???tions to African, is wo??? of support and encouragement.

Background: Ghana's Head of State, Colonel I.K. Acheampomg, inaugurated the Ghan, branch of the African Youth Command in a ceremony at the State House in Accra on Saturday (11 May).

The African Youth Command is a continental youth organisation formed under the auspices of the Organisation of African Unity. Its purpose is to provide young Africans with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the processes of modern "socio-economic" organisation at both national and international levels.

The Command is described as non-political, non-religious, non-tribal and a completely classless movement. It is intended to foster closer boas of brotherhood between the young people of Africa, and the Command will organise voluntary work camps during holidays in rural areas. Members of the Command will be assigned to various camps on an exchange basis.

In Ghana, the Command will aim at mobilising, educating and directing the revolutionary potentials of young people behind the current revolution under the leadership of the National Redemption Council.

In his inaugural speech, Col. Acheampong, described the Command as "a truly Pan-African youth movement."
