King Hussein of Jordan arrived at Andrews Airforce Base, Washington, on Monday (11th March) on an unofficial visit to the United States. The King was originally due to go to the US from London last weekend, but the visit was postponed when he returned home to Amman to deal with unrest in his armed forces.
King Hussein is to meet President Nixon and Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger to discuss the Middle East situation and the supply of arms and economic assistance to Jordan.
Their talks are expected to concentrate on a general assessment of the Arab-Israeli situation. With the exception of the Palestinian refugee problem, they are not expected to touch on the current peace initiatives.
After talks with President Nixon, King Hussein is to be guest of honour at a luncheon given by Dr. Kissinger.
He will also have talks with the American Defence Secretary James Schlesinger.
