  • Description

Four anti-aircraft guns were set up around the villa occupied by former Argentina President, Juan Peron, in Buenos Aires on Friday (1 December). But they were removed after two hours.

Government sources said the guns, and about 40 soldiers, were moved in with the consent of those living in the house; but retired Army Colonel, Jorge Osinds, the chief of Peron's personal guard, told newsmen he didn't know why the armament had been brought in. However, later press reports say the guns were placed around the house after several unscheduled aircraft flew overhead. The reports say Peron's staff may have feared that right-wing extremists would drop bombs or handgrenades from light aircraft.

Senor Peron moved into the house with his wife Isabel on the 18th of November, the day after the returned to Argentina following more than 17 year in exile.
