  • Description

Princess Margaret, on a five-day tour of the Channel Islands, was filmed June 22 by VISNEWS arriving by patrol boat for a two-hour visit to the island of Sark - and returning to Guernsey where she spent the rest of her first day's stay.

Fashionably protected against drizzle and thundery showers, the Princess wore a plastic headsquare over a cyclamen hat, and a purple raincoat over a cyclamen silk duster coat, for the brief boat journeys.

The tour began at Guernsey as the Princess landed by plane from London. She travelled to and from Sark on the bridge of the fast patrol boat H.M.S. Bold Pathfinder.

Finer weather broke out as she went ashore at the tiny harbour of La Maseline, in Sark. Accompanied by the Lieutenant Governor of Guernsey, Vice-Admiral Sir Geoffrey Robson, the Princess climbed steep steps to the top of the jetty where she was received by the Dame of Sark, Mrs. R.S. Hathaway. From the harbour, the Princess drove in one of the island's traditional open carriages to plant a commemorative tree outside the island's church. After taking tea with Mrs. Hathaway at the Seigneurie, the Princess returned to Guernsey.
