  • Description

Hundreds of Vietnamese demonstrated in Paris at the weekend to mark the anniversary of the Declaration of Human Rights and protesting against what they called the "undeniably totalitarian dictatorship" which now exists in Vietnam.

SYNOPSIS: Saturday was the 29th anniversary of the Declaration in Paris on December the 10th, 1945. "Vietnamese people don't want Communism", read the banners being carried by many of the protestors.

Several hundred of them...many of them refugees from Vietnam and others residents of France.... marched from the Place de la Republique to the Bastille. Much in evidence were the yellow and red flags of the former Republic of Vietnam....the Saigon-headed South Vietnam. The protestors claimed that Vietnam today was undeniably a totalitarian dictatorship....where Vietnamese were not even allowed the most basic human rights. The Hanoi-based Government, they claimed, operated today a reign of terror under the guise of banishing colonialism.

Also under attack from the protestors were the Vietnamese re-education centres....they said they were in fact extermination centres through which half-a-million prisoners of war were now being processed. The Vietnamese in the march said they wanted to draw the public's attention to the plight of their fellow countrymen.
