MR. WILLIAMS, WHO IS 68, AND HIS WIFE HAVE FIVE SONS, AGED BETWEEN 11 AND 19. THEIR CASE HAS BEEN TAKEN UP BY BRITISH ORGANIZATION CHRISTIAN ACTION.

IN LONDON, FOUR INQUIRIES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED BY THE MINISTRY OF LABOUR FROM PEOPLE INTERESTED IN PROVIDING OF FINDING JOBS FOR THE WILLIAMS FAMILY. A GOVERNMENT SPOKESMAN SAID THE QUESTION OF WORK PERMITS MUST BE SETTLED BEFORE A DECISION COULD BE TAKEN ON WHETHER TO ALLOW THE FAMILY TO ENTER BRITAIN. IN A STATEMENT TO A CAPETOWN LAWYER, MR. WILLIAMS SAID NEITHER HE NOR HIS WIFE HAD EVER BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH ANY POLITICAL MOVEMENT. THEIR DEPARTURE FROM SOUTH AFRICA WAS NOT AVOID APARTHEID -- THEY WERE FULFILLING AN AMBITION TO TRAVEL.

HE ADMITTED THAT AT HIS AGE "IT WAS DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN EMPLOYMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA," AND THAT HE WOULD HAVE BEEN PREPARED TO ACCEPT EMPLOYMENT IN ENGLAND.

HE ADDED IN HIS STATEMENT: "WE HAVE AN AFFECTION FOR SOUTH AFRICA WHICH WE REGARD AS OUR HOME."
