    THE GHANA PIONEER ALUMINIUM FACTORY OF TEMA IS PLANNING TO STEP UP EXPORTS TO NEIGHBOURING AFRICAN COUNTRIES. THE FACTORY IS AT PRESENT EXPORTING ITS ALUMINIUM PRODUCTS TO MALI AND UPPER VOLTA BUT RECENTLY ANNOUNCED IT WAS EXPLORING WAYS OF EXTENDING THE FIELD TO INCLUDE DAHOMEY, TOGO AND LIBERIA.

    ESTABLISHED IN 1960, THE FACTORY IS A JOINTLY OWNED STATE AND PRIVATE ENTERPRISE. IT PRODUCES 10,000 ALUMINIUM HOUSEHOLD UTENSILS A DAY INCLUDING POTS AND PANS, ELECTRIC KETTLES AND CUTLERY.

    ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY PEOPLE ARE EMPLOYED BY THE COMPANY WORKING A SEVEN AND A HALF HOUR DAY. BUT THE NUMBER MAY SOON BE INCREASED IF PROPOSALS TO INTRODUCE A SECOND SHIT ARE FINALISED.

    OTHER FUTURE PLANS INCLUDE THE PRODUCTION OF ALUMINIUM BOXES FOR GHANA'S FISHING COMPANIES AND THE MANUFACTURE OF TINS FOR BEER.
