Background: Rally drivers were filmed by VISNEWS Jan 21 entering Monaco, journey's end.

After nearly 2,000 miles of motoring in varying conditions, 220 of the original 322 starters reached Monte Carlo. Of these 186 qualified for the Classification Tests. They were given an hour to overhaul their vehicles before starting the gruelling 270 mile night drive through the mountains.

First car to arrive was A Swedish Volvo driven from Lisbon by West German pair Gunther Kowles and Fraulein Lautmann. First 'Coupe des Dames' candidates to arrive were Madame Claudine Vanson and Madame Jacqueline Hummel of France. They drove a Simca from Lisbon.

Final stage of the Rally produced some devastating results. There was little snow, but the mountain passes were icebound. Drivers skidded, hit trees and walls or ended in ditches.

Rally winner will be named after assessment of the Classification Tests results.
