Background: A Britten-Norman twin-engine "Islander" aircraft arrived at Ndolo airport in Kinshasa this week for delivery to the newly-formed Agence des Messageries Aeriennes Congolaises (AMAC) - the Congolese Air Messenger Agency. It is the first aircraft to be going into service with the Agency - which is to be used initially only as a speedier carrier for Congo-Kinshasa's information services: films, television, magazines, newspapers, books, etc.

Eventually, AMAC hope to have a small fleet of aircraft for light freight and some passenger carriage.

The Islander is an easily-adaptable, multi-purpose aircraft. It can seat up to twelve passengers, or carry up to 2,300 pounds (1,043 kilos) of freight - or a combination of both. It can cruise up to speeds of 166 kph (267 kph). It is built by the Britten-Norman company of the Isle of right.

AMAC's next aircraft is expected to be a Japanese MU-2G turboprop made by the aviation division of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.

???.B. Zambia's Flying Doctor Service recently ordered five Britten-Norman islanders, and took delivery of the first two in February, we serviced this story on February 26, at 61 feet under PROD.NO.2270/71: UK - ZAMBIA TAKES DELIVERY OF TWO AIRCRAFT FOR ITS FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE.
