    TO CELEBRATE THE 11TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JAPANESE 'SELF-DEFENCE' ARMY, A TOKEN FORCE OF 4.300 SOLDIERS MARCHED THROUGH THE STREETS OF TOKYO NOVEMBER 2 TO MEIJI PARK WHERE THEY WERE REVIEWED BY THE PRIME MINISTER, MR. HAYATO IKEDA, AND OTHER LEADING MEMBERS OF THE GOVERNMENT.

    THE VERY LATEST EQUIPMENT WAS INCLUDED IN THIS DISPLAY OF JAPAN'S INCREASING MILITARY STRENGTH. AS 110 AIRCRAFT OF VARIOUS TYPES FLEW OVERHEAD, THE LATEST IN HEAVY ARTILLERY, TANKS AND RADAR EQUIPMENT WAS PARADED PAST THE REVIEWING STAND.

    IN A SPEECH THE MARCH-PAST, MR. IKEDA SAID THERE WAS NO 'SHORT CUT' TO PEACE DESPITE THE WORLD-WIDE DESIRE FOR LASTING PEACE. HE STATED THAT JAPAN WAS BUILDING UP HER MILITARY STRENGTH BECAUSE OF THE PRESENT UNEASY INTERNATIONAL SITUATION.
