    GHANA'S MINISTER OF COMMUNICATIONS HAS ORDERED AN IMMEDIATE INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSES OF THE CRASH OF GHANA A AIRWAYS DAKOTA IN TAKORADI (GHANA) ON THURSDAY. (24 APRIL)
    THE PLANE CRASHED INTO A CASSAVA FARM AT APREMDU, NEAR THE TAKORADI AIRPORT. IT WAS FLYING IN FROM KUMASI. MINISTRY OF COMMUNICATIONS OFFICIALS SAY THE PLANE, WITH 29 PASSENGERS AND A CREW OF THREE, IS ALLEGED TO HAVE DEVELOPED TECHNICAL TROUBLE AND CRASHED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE LANDING.

    ONE PASSENGER DIED IN THE CRASH, TEN PASSENGERS WERE TREATED AND DISCHARGED, AND EIGHTEEN OTHERS WERE ADMITTED TO HOSPITALS IN SEKONDI AND TAKORADI. THE CREW - TWO PILOTS AND A STEWARDESS - WERE AMONG THOSE IN HOSPITAL. THE PILOT, CAPTAIN TAIT, IS BRITISH, AND HAS WORKED WITH GHANA AIRWAYS FOR ABOUT FOUR YEARS.

    LATEST REPORTS SAY THAT THE CONDITION OF EIGHT OF THE INJURED, INCLUDING THE PILOT AND CO-PILOT, IS STEADILY IMPROVING. MEANWHILE POLICE ARE PROBING THE WRECKAGE TO FIND SOME CLUE TO THE CAUSES OF THE DISASTER.
