Background: Somalia's President General Mohammed Siad Barre arrived in Abidjan, capital of Ivory Coast, on Thursday (21 November) for a two-day official visit. He was welcomed at the airport by Ivory Coast President, Felix Houphouet-Boigny and leading members of his administration.
The Somali leader is the current President of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) and his visit to Ivory Coast was part of a fact-finding tour of Africa.
On his arrival, General Barre said that his talks with President Houphouet-Boigny wee to encompass wide range of African and international problems.
In his welcoming address, President Houphouet-Boigny expressed hopes that the Somali leader's visit -- his first to Ivory Coast -- would contribute to the construction of a prosperous and peaceful Africa.
General Barre was due to leave Abidjan on Saturday (23 November) to visit Liberia ... a continuation of his African tour.
