  • Description

The Greek Foreign Minister, M. ???helos Averof, left Athens on July 7 for talks on world problems and the Middle East with the Foreign Ministers of Yugoslavia and the United Arab Republic at Brioni Island in the North Adriatic.

The talks are expected to last two days. M. Averof, while on Brioni Island - Yugoslav President Tito's summer retreat - is due to confer later in the week with the President who is having talks there with the President of the UAR, M. Gamal Nasser.

Athens political circles believe Tito may try to persuade Greece to join the neutralist way of Belgrade and Cairo.

Greece may feel that the moment has come to strengthen her ties with the two capitals since no support has been forthcoming from either NATO - of which she is a member - or the Western Powers over her national claim, Cyprus.
