Background: This official film, released by the Chinese Information Service in New York, shows repair activity at the Ching Chuan Kang Airforce Base in Taiwan where more than four thousand U.S. servicemen are stationed. Most of the troops are working in support of U.S. forces in Vietnam and elsewhere in South-east Asia. Also at the base, repair shops operated by Air Asia.....a privately-owned Sino-American company....carry out maintenance on American-built aircraft in service with the airforces of South Vietnam, Thailand, South Korea, The Philippines, and Taiwan. Four thousand Chinese technicians work alongside American civilians rebuilding war-damaged aircraft at what is thought to be the largest international maintenance base of its kind in Asia.

The United States Airforce plans to withdraw many of its men from Taiwan, but the Chairman of the American Joint Chiefs of Staff....Admiral Thomas Moorer....has said Taiwan will remain important to the defence of the western Pacific.

SYNOPSIS: In Taiwan, the Airforce Base at Ching Chuan Kang is being kept busy as a repair and maintenance centre for American-built aircraft being flown by the airforces of South Vietnam, Thailand, South Korea, the Philippines and Taiwan.

Over four thousand United States Airforce personnel are stationed at the base. Their jobs are primarily in support of U.S. forces in Vietnam and elsewhere in South-east Asia.

Many of the repair shops are operated by Air Asia....a privately-owned Sino-American company. Here four thousand Chinese technicians are working alongside American civilians rebuilding war-damaged aircraft.

Ching Chuan Kang is considered the largest international maintenance base of its kind in Asia.

No American combat troops are stationed at Ching Chuan Kang, and an American military advisory group numbers only 300 men, however, according to Admiral Thomas Moorer....Chairman of the American Joint Chiefs of Staff,.....Taiwan will remain important to the defence of the western Pacific when the U.S. Airforce withdraws many of its men.
