    THE AIRCRAFT, AN EGYPTIAN ANATOV, CARRYING 41 PEOPLE, WAS ON A REGULAR FLIGHT FROM CAIRO TO THE RED SEA PORT OF HURGHADA. THE MAN WHO COMMANDEERED THE AIRCRAFT, MR. RIAD KAMMAL HAGGAG, ACCORDING TO A NEWSPAPER REPORT IN AMMAN, SAID HE POINTED THE UNLOADED PISTOL AT THE PILOT'S HEAD AND FORCES HIM TO CHANGE COURSE FOR AMMAN.

    MR. HAGGAG HAS SOUGHT POLITICAL ASYLUM IN JORDAN, AND THE JORDANIAN NEWS AGENCY REPORTS HAGGAG WAS GIVEN VALUABLE INFORMATION ON EGYPTIAN INTELLIGENCE ACTIVITIES.

    THE PASSENGERS AND CREW FROM THE EGYPTIAN AIRLINER WERE BILLETED IN AMMAN, AND LATER TOOK OFF FOR CAIRO. THE PASSENGERS INCLUDED EGYPTIAN, GREEK, CANADIAN AND GERMAN CITIZENS. THEY SAID LATER THEY HAD BEEN WELL TREATED DURING THEIR STAY IN JORDAN.
