Background: The Gaza strip was occupied by the Israelis in 1967, though it changed hands once before in 1956 (check this). Now it is just possible that it could be returned to Egypt. Gaza town on Saturday exhibited no evidence of President Sadat's visit. There was a security check on vehicles entering the town, but apart from that there was no evidence of tension in the town. The town still has a traditionally Arab flavour with women in purdah carrying shopping on their heads, donkey carts and street markets.
