    The Central Nuclear Measurement Laboratory, one of Euratom's research facilities, held an open day at Geel in Belgium on Friday to mark their tenth anniversary.

    A member of the European Community Commission, Snr Spinelli, outlined the experiments in progress and the guidelines of research work to visitors.

    Scientists and technicians were on hand to demonstrate current experiments. The Measurement Laboratory is involved with mush of the standardisation work being done on nuclear materials in the Common Market. The results of the work helps in designing new electric power reactors.

    Visitors were shown a model of the laboratory's linear accelerator -- one of the most powerful in the world.

    The centre employs scientists from throughout Europe and serve as a useful focal point in exchanges of information of nuclear research. There are three other similar research facilities in Europe, the most important situated at Ispra in Italy.
