    When the military took power in Ethiopia last September and deposed Emperor Haile Selassie, all of the former ruler's property, both in the capital Addis Ababa and elsewhere in the country, was nationalised.

    On Friday (1 November) The Provisional Military Administrative Council announced the setting up of a Special Committee to prepare an inventory of the contents of the deposed Emperor's palaces.

    Newsman were invited to join committee members on a tour of the National Palace (formerly the Jubilee Palace) in Addis Ababa, to view some of the treasures it contains.

    Another of the Special Committee's tasks will be to recommend ways of preserving the palaces for public use in the future.

    Another of Emperor Hails Gelassie's homes - the Grand Palace in Addis Ababa - is now the headquarters of the Military Government. IN the cellars of this palace, now being used as prison, are some 200 former government ministers, officials, provincial governors and judges awaiting trial.

    SYNOPSIS: Newsmen were invited to join committee members on a tour of the National Palace -- formerly called the Jubilee Palace -- to view some of the treasures it contains. As ??? tour progressed the committee began its work of indexing individual items - among them was the former Emperor's personal throne.

    Other items included gifts accumulated by the former Emperor during his thirty-eight year reign. The National Palace is just one of many properties owned by ex-Emperor Haile Selassie and the Special Committee have the additional task of recommending ways of preserving them for public use in the future.
