  • Description

Canadian agricultural scientists have showed off their latest weapon in the farmer's fight against sudden frosts. It looks like a giant tube of tooth paste in action:
The new machine was demonstrated at an experimental farm run by the federal government in Ontario. It's expected to be commercially available by next year. The technique is simple: the machine extrudes a double ribbon of special foam around tender plants such as strawberries or tomatoes that could be damaged by frost. The foam lasts about forty-eight hours and will protect plants against temperatures as low as twenty degrees fahrenheit - twelve degrees below freezing. Now Canada's getting inquiries from farmers all over the world about the new invention.
