    Background: SYDNEY SHOWGROUND HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED INTO A GIANT SHOP WINDOW FOR BRITAIN'S EXPORT INDUSTRIES. PREPARATIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED FOR THE BRITISH EXHIBITION, WHICH WAS OPENED ON SEPTEMBER 25 BY THE AUSTRALIAN PREMIER, SIR ROBERT MENZIES.

    THE EXHIBITIONS HAS COST FOUR MILLION POUNDS TO MOUNT AND THE VALUE OF GOODS ON SHOW IS AT LEAST 25 MILLION POUNDS. THERE ARE MORE THAN 400 BRITISH AND AUSTRALIAN EXHIBITORS, AND THE DISPLAYS OF THEIR LATEST PRODUCTS COVER A QUARTER OF A MILLION SQUARE FEET.

    FAMOUS NAMES IN BRITISH CHINAWARES ARE REPRESENTED. IT'S JUST ONE AMONG A WIDE RANGE OF CONSUMER GOOD REFLECTING BRITAIN'S HUGE STAKE IN THE AUSTRALIAN MARKET.

    THIS BULL-IN-THE-CHINA SHOP HAS TO BE HANDLED WITH CARE: IT'S WORTH ONE THOUSAND POUNDS. DISPLAYS OF BRITISH CRAFTSMANSHIP WILL BE STAGED LATER BY MANY HUNDREDS OF SYDNEY STORES, BANKS AND OTHER PUBLIC UTILITIES.

    ALL OVER THE SHOWGROUND, WORKMEN WERE PUTTING THE FINISHING TOUCHES TO EXHIBITS. THE BASIC THEME SPOTLIGHTS BRITAIN AS AUSTRALIA'S BIGGEST CUSTOMER, BIGGEST SUPPLIER AND BIGGEST INVESTOR IN AUSTRALIA.

    THE AIRCRAFT PAVILION CONTAINS EXHIBITIONS OF MISSILES AND MODERN AIRCRAFT FINAL ADJUSTMENTS WERE MADE TO A NOVEL DISPLAY FEATURING THE FLIGHT DECK AND A WORKING MODEL OF THE ANGLO-FRENCH CONCORDE JET LINER. THE APPARATUS IS WORKED BY COMPRESSED AIR AND COST 25,000 POUNDS.
