  • Description

In a televised speech the second anniversary of Cuba's Agrarian Reform programme May 17, Prime Minister Fidel Castro told 6,000 peasant farmers near Havana that he was willing to exchange prisoners taken during last month's invasion of Cuba for 500 American bulldozers or a number of tractors.

He told the cheering crowd: "Of course, those among them who have committed murders cannot be exchanged for anything. Those who have murdered are not subject to any treaty. All the others we will exchange for 500 bulldozers. The Fascist priests we will send free".

The Cuban Prime Minister said that if the United States was not prepared to make this exchange the prisoners would be make to work hard building treaches and fortifications. His words were enthusiastically received by his audience, who took up the chant of "Let them work" after he had finished speaking, according to observers of the television programme monitored in Florida.

Later, Dr. Castro toured the Agricultural Fair in Havana - many of the exhibits he saw were from the Soviet Union.
