Background: ONE OF LONDON'S YOUNGEST FASHION DESIGNERS, CLIVE, PRESENTS HIS SECOND ANNUAL COLLECTION OF AUTUMN AND WINTER CLOTHES. FASHIONABLE ST GEORGE'S STREET IN MAYFAIR IS THE SETTING FOR THE COLLECTION.

SUITS AND COATS ARE LONG AND LEAN, AND WITH SLIGHTLY SQUARED SHOULDERS. JACKETS ARE NARROW, DOUBLE-BREASTED AND OF WRIST-LENGTH. THEY HAVE SPLIT YOKES ON THEM AND BUTTON UP TO THE NECK.

SOME ROLL COLLARS SHOW ABOVE COLLARLESS COATS. SOME COATS ARE CROPPED FIVE-EIGHT LENGTH, WITH MATCHING SKIRTS AND WITH A ROUNDER SILHOUETTE. THERE ARE CAPE BACKS TO COATS, AND SOME CAPE JACKETS ARE CUT AWAY AT THE SIDES FOR EASY MOVEMENT.

SKIRTS JUST GRAZE THE KNEE-CAP AND ARE EASED ON TO A HIP YOKE TO PROVIDE MOVEMENT WITHOUT BULK. EVENING DRESSES HAVE A BEDOUIN TOUCH ABOUT THEM. THEY ARE MAINLY IN BRILLIANTLY STRIPED LACE WOOL,WITH LONG MATCHING SCARVES AND HOODED CAPES CUT FROM DEEP FOLDS.

THERE ARE GAITERS IN SOFT SUEDE WORN OVER SHOES IN MATCHING LEATHER AS AN ALTERNATIVE TO BOOTS, AND THERE ARE YOKED BALACLAVAS IN TWEED FOR DAY, AND SEQUIN-EMBROIDERED LACE FOR THE EVENING.

CLIVE'S CHOICE OF FABRICS FOR DAY WEAR ARE SMOOTH, FIRM, PLAIN AND CHECKED TWEED; RIBBED GABARDINE, LIGHT BOUCLE MOHAIR; BOUCLE LACE WOOL; AND ANGORA. FOR EVENING HE CHOOSES PRINTED VELVET; DOUBLE SATIN, CREPE, SILK; PRINTED DIAGONALLY STRIPED LACE WOOL; PERSIAN TAPESTRY AND CIRE BROCADE.
