    A Japanese envoy has left Tokyo for Israel carrying apologies from Prime Minister Eisaku Sato and an offer of "condolence cash payments" to victims of Tuesday's (30 May) Tel Aviv Airport shooting.

    The envoy, Mr. Kenji Fukunaga, was seen off from Tokyo Airport by the Japanese foreign Minister, Mr. Takeo Fukuda.

    Mr. Fukuda said the envoy would be carrying a personal letter of apology to the Israeli Premier, Mrs. Golda Mair.

    The envoy's trip was decided by a special meeting of the Japanese Cabinet, which expressed its deep sorrow over e shootings by three Japanese gunman. Twenty-six people and two of the gunmen died in the shooting.

    SYNOPSIS: At Tokyo's International Airport, a special Japanese envoy, Mr. Kenji Fukunaga, prepares to leave for Israel, carrying his country's apologies and an offer of "condolence cash payments" to victims of Tuesday's shooting at Tel Aviv airport.

    Mr. Fukunaga was seen off by the Japanese Foreign Minister, Mr. Takeo Fujuda, who said the envoy would be carrying a personal letter to Israel's Premier Golda Mair.

    The envoy's trip was decided by a special meeting of the Japanese Cabinet, which expressed deep sorrow over the shootings by three Japanese gunman. Twenty-six people, and two of the gunmen, died in the shooting. It has not yet been decided what size the "condolence" payments would be or whether they would cover both dead and wounded. This decision would be taken in conference with the Israeli Government, cabinet agreed.
