Background: The Jordanian government has disclosed details of an alleged plot by Palestinian guerrillas to sabotage the mine at Ruseifa operated by the Jordanian Phosphate Company. Previously the government and guerrilla elements had agreed there should be no military action around the mine, because of its great economic importance to Jordan.
The Jordanian Ministry of Information said that security forces searched the mine as a result of information that had been received concerning a proposed sabotage mission against the mine by guerrilla forces. The security forces had recovered large quantities of ammunition, rockets and weapons.
The ministry statement also alleged that guerrillas had mined the road from Ruseifa to Amman, and a security forces vehicle had been blown up and all its passengers killed.
