SYNOPSIS: A coup in Honduras on Monday - and it's the second time that General Oswaldo Lopez Arellano has become President by force. This film was taken in 1963, when he seized power for the first time.

There were street battles in the capital, Tegucigalpa, then, but on this occasion the take-over was bloodless. The General who was chief of the army, this time deposed President Ramon Ernesto Cruz.

The new President was only a colonel when he seized power in 1963. He said then his revolt was aimed at bringing peace to Honduras. This time, messages were broadcast saying General Lopez will rule for at least five years. All the country's radio stations were inked up to broadcast official bulletins, and other communication links were cut.
