At the Dodan Barracks in Lagos, on Thursday (28 May), General Yakubu Gowon received the Cameroun Foreign Minister, Mr. Simeon Nko-o Etungou. Mr. Etungou was delivering a special massage from President Ahmadou Ahidjo of the Cameroun.
Mr. Etungou, who did not disclose the contents of the message, is also holding talks with the Nigerian Foreign Minister Dr. Okoi Arkopo.
General Gown expressed Nigeria's appreciation of Cameroun's President Ahidjo's support for the country during the most difficult period in her history. Continual cooperation between the two countries in the social, cultural and economic spheres should be encouraged, General Gowon urged.
Refugees from the former breakaway State of Biafra crossed into Cameroun in the early stages of the Nigerian Civil War, when Biafra and Cameroun shared a common frontier.
President Ahidjo is current President of the Organisation of African Unity.
