    Background: The Andean Common Market's oil industry received a boost last week when Bolivian President Hugo Banzer opened a plant to manufacture drills at Santa Cruz. The plant is run by the Compania Andina de Triconos with a one million dollar (about 400 thousand starling) share capital from an American company.

    Initially the plant will produce one hundred drills a month...as demand increases this figure will be increased to 8,200 units a year. The Bolivian plant will manufacture tricone drills for the six nations of the Andean Common Market...Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela and Bolivia.

    President Banzer arrived in Santa Cruz on Wednesday (26 February) for a two day visit. He also opened a new grain elevator on the outskirts of the town and a luxurious hotel.
