    The United Arab Republic celebrated its Army Day, October 20, commemorating the agreement of October 20, 1956, by which the Egyptian and Syrian armies were brought under joint command.

    Token forces representing various Army unite and Military Academy students marched through the main streets of Cairo and Heliopolis. In the morning, Lieutenant General Ali Amer, Chief of Staff of the United Arab Republic Armed Forces was among those who laid wreaths at Cairo Military Cemetery.

    An anniversary parade was also held in Damascus, October 20, but very few of Syria's 80,000 troops took part.

    A concentration of Syrian army unite is reported on the border with Iraq at Dair ez Zor. Iraq's Military Governor claimed shortly before the recent attempt on Gen. Kassem's life that U.A.S. forces were concentrating on the Syria--Iraq border.
