  • Description

The Kabaka of Buganda celebrated his 36th birthday November 20 with a three-day programme which included a thanksgiving service at Namirembe Cathedral, Kampala.

Waiting to greet the Kabaka at the Cathedral was Dr. Leslie Brown, whose election as Archbishop-designate of the new Anglican Province of Uganda and Ruanda-Urundi was announced a few days ago. Dr. Brown will be formally installed as Archbishop next April, when the Archbishop of Canterbury comes to Uganda to inaugurate the new Province and transfer his authority to the new Archbishop.

The Cathedral was full to capacity, and as the drummers called the people on the traditional drums (no church bells here) there was a colourful scene as the people made their way: the chiefs were in the traditional robes of office, and the ladies in their best dresses styled in the manner accepted by Buganda.
