  • Description

THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL ADJOURNED YESTERDAY (FRIDAY) UNTIL NEXT WEEK AFTER HEARING A STATEMENT BY THE BRITISH DELEGATE, LORD CARADON - FORMERLY SIR HUGH FOOT - ON THE RHODESIAN SITUATION. THE COUNCIL TOOK UP THE QUESTION OF RHODESIA AT THE INSTANCE OF 35 AFRICAN MEMBER-STATES OF THE UNITED NATIONS.

LORD CARADON ASKED THE SECURITY COUNCIL TO TAKE NO ACTION THAT WOULD MAKE MORE DIFFICULT THE EXPECTED NEGOTIATION BETWEEN HIS GOVERNMENT AND THAT OF RHODESIA. THE BRITISH DELEGATE, WHO RESIGNED HIS POSITION IN OCTOBER 1962 BECAUSE HE DISAGREED WITH THE CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT'S POLICY ON RHODESIA, MADE IT CLEAR THAT HE WHOLE-HEARTEDLY SUPPORTED THE LABOUR GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE AND ACTIONS.
