"A record Chicago crowd of 19,690 came out to see the 76'ers big six, Dr. J. Julius Irving but he could only manage a season low nine points. Instead it was the Bulls who dominated. Scott Maine, in his first pro start, scored 9 of his 16 poinds in a blazing second quarter for Chicago. The Bulls forced poor shots and outletted quickly on fast break opportunities. John Loscowski set up 18 points scorer Micky Johnson as the Bulls shot a blazing 75 percent in the quarter. The Bulls led 54-38 at halftime, with seven-three Artis Gilmore, number 53, pushing Johnson with 18 more points over-powering 76'er Caldwell Jones on the stop. Meanwhile Dr. J. was having his troubles. The ball was knocked away as he started down the glide-path his co-three million dollar man number 30 George McGuiness did lead the sixers with 21 points, knocking the Bulls aside on his way to the hoop, and Johnson was put down on the seat of his pants. The sixers came within nine points but tiny.

Wilbur Hallis scootered in to put the game away for Chicago. The doctor tried one more time to thrill the crowd, but Johnson got his hand in the way to deflect Irving's slammer off course. It was that kind of night for the NBA's most marked man as the Bulls won 101-88. Jeff Davis, NBC news, Chicago."
