Background: At the close of the Katmandu talks on the Sino-Nepalese border dispute, Oct 26, substantial agreement was reached after a series of eleven meetings. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chang Shi-Chieh who led his country's delegation and Nepal's Major-General Padma Bahadur Khetri will issue a joint statement, Oct 29, reporting the results of the discussions.

As a result of the Katmandu talks both countries will send field teams into the border area and peg out a provisional boundary. When the field teams have completed this work another meeting will take place in Peking.

In April Nepal's Premier Koirala went to Peking where after a meeting with Chou En Lai it was decided to use the traditional boundaries between the two countries as a basis of agreement. As a result of the Katmandu talks the agreement between Nepal and China has been carried on stage further.
