The first-ever Seminar on Sport to be held in Africa, was opened in Rabat on Thursday, April 22. The four-day seminar has been organized by UNESCO, the International Council for Sports and Physical Education (ICSPE), and the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa (SCSA).

The first session was opened by Morocco's Minister for Sports, Youth and Social Affairs, M. The Seminar is devoted to the general theme "Contribution of Sport to the Construction of Modern Africa", and the agenda includes the discussion of financial and administration problems encountered by sport in Africa; the planning for low costs in sports facilities; new ways of teaching sport in difficult conditions; the role of sport in industry; and sports medicine and its role in Africa.

The countries represented are Algeria, Egypt, Ghana, Libya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Togo and Zambia. Also attending are members of the sponsoring organisations; observers from the sporting Universities of Leipzig (East Germany) and Cologne (West Germany); and representatives from various European sporting organisations.
