Continuing his exhaustive West German tour President Bayar today left Berlin for Hamburg by plane. A ceremony at Templehof airport was the prelude to his departure from the city.
After the usual welcoming formalities at Hamburg airport, the President went to Hamburg's Rathaus, where he subscribed to the Golden Book of the city of Hamburg.
Next a tour by boat of Hamburg harbour...a dull, cheerless and blustery day...and a visit to the famous Blohm and Voss shipyards.
In the afternoon President Bayar visited the Turkish community in Hamburg and spoke with several of its members.
Then on to Kiel by car, and, first, a visit to the city hall. (Here he was affectionately received by an old Turkish lady who had been resident in Germany for 40 years.)
Next, a visit to the Kiel shipyards. Followed by a fast-moving trip on one of Germany's magnificent motor torpedo boats. At some 40 knots an hour, the President experienced the full force of wind and flying spray, and it wasn't long before he substituted a seaman's woollen cap for his trim felt hat (which he nearly lost several times in the gale) The Baltic was not in a particularly friendly mood today.
The day's programmed ended with a visit to the International Students Hostal in Kiel.
President Bayar is due to leave for home on May 16th.
