  • Description

Snow drifts are as high as fifteen feet in Quebec, but a gold rush is on. Gold operations are under way along the Chaudiere River...East of Montreal between Quebec City and Sherbrooke. Geologists, prospectors and engineers have been pouring into the area which promises to yield gold with low-cost operations. 'Placer' gold, as it is called, is found in surface gravel and sand, deposited by glaciers which passed through millions of years ago. Word of the 'Gold-strike' spread so rapidly that nearly 1,500 miners' licences were issued in a single week. At least 4,000 claims have already been staked.
