    West German Defence Minister Franz Josef Strauss - on a six-day visit to Greece - completed a lightning tour of military units and installations, Mar 15, at Salonika, Verria, Edessa and the ancient city of Pella.

    At a Press conference in Salonika Herr Strauss revealed that the West German Government was negotiating with France for facilities for the training of German pilots on long-range flights. He added that German personnel were using training facilities in Sardinia, and airfields near Panormos in Turkey. There is a missile training range under NATO control in Sardinia, and German pilot training in Turkey in known to concentrate on low bombing drill.

    Herr Strauss reiterated that no military facilities were required in Greece unless these were obtained by NATO for use by all member nations. Referring to the strength of German defence forces under NATO, he said they would amount to a total of 260,000 army, 80,000 air force and 30,000 navy.

    The West German Defence Minister said in Athens, Mar 12, the Federal Republic had given arms factories orders worth GBP6,000,000 GBP6,000,000. A second order for arms and clothing worth GBP3,000,000 would fellow.
