Background: A rally, staged by about 5,000 Mexican-Americans in Los Angeles on Sunday, who were protesting against alleged police brutality, turned into a rock-throwing, window-breaking looting spree after the rally had broken up.
Unfortunately, the police who'd been kept out of sight for most of the day, quickly swung into action. They were stoned by the mob and retaliated in no uncertain terms. One youth was killed, several others wounded. The police used tear gas and, as our film shows, the butts of their rifles. This film was shot by an NBC cameraman and came to VISNEWS via a telerecording off a satellite transmission which accounts for its uneven quality, just as do the conditions under which it was filmed.
